Chairman of the Kwa Dukuza Resource Centre Board: M. Mazive
(Principal - Shekembula Secondary, Chairperson –PROTEC Stanger, Local Municipal Counsellor)
The Kwa Dukuza Resource Centre, popularly known as the Sappi Resource Centre has entered its 10th year as an educational service provider in the iLembe district. The invaluable icon has been the brainchild of Sappi, who initiated and established this centre to serve the people of Kwa-Dukuza.
Today, the centre has over 17 365 registered members on its database excluding the 10 000 day passes that had been through our turnstiles and over 22 857 individuals going through our Computer Technology Programmes over the last 10 years. This clearly indicates that Sappi’s vision of establishing this centre was spot on for it is highly utilised and very productive in terms of enriching our education fraternity and the community at large.
Of course, a centre of this magnitude needs to sustain itself. Sappi has spent an enormous amount of money setting up the centre in 2000. To date, they still fund the Centre’s running cost annually in both kind and cash.
We are also indebted to a large number of companies as well as corporate and in kind donors who fund various projects for the upliftment of our community. In this respect, I impress upon our Kwa Dukuza community to invest in the Centre and help create a better direction for our learners in the area.
I want to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to our previous as well as our present donors for their interest in our community. I urge our past donors to once more come on board to continue the good work that they had commenced during the past 10 years.
I urge all learners and educators from both primary and secondary schools to take advantage of the educational programmes offered by the centre as a way forward to a better life.
